The 2011 Big Ten women's cross country season came to a close at the NCAA Championships, with three of the five competing Big Ten teams placing in the top 20 at the national meet. Penn State finished 13th at the championships, followed by Michigan in 15th, Big Ten Champion Michigan State in 16th, Wisconsin and 24th and Minnesota in 27th. The Nittany Lions' Caitlin Lane took 16th individually to pace all Big Ten runners at the meet en route to All-America status.
Big Ten Reels in Regional Awards: After earning the Great Lakes Regional title, Michigan was well-represented in the USTFCCCA regional awards contingent. The Wolverines' Danielle Tauro was named the Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year, while head coach Mike McGuire was tabbed Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year. Additionally, 29 Big Ten runners received All-Region recognition by virtue of their top-25 finish at their respective regionals. For complete regional results, click here.
Big Ten Championships Roundup: Michigan State won its second straight Big Ten Championship, finishing with a winning score of 55 after placing three in the top 10. Big Ten Postseason Awards: Penn State's Caitlin Lane was named Big Ten Athlete of the Year after placing first at the Big Ten Championships with a time of 19:58. After leading Michigan State to its second consecutive Big Ten title, Spartan head coach Walt Drenth picked up his second straight Coach of the Year award. Michigan's Taylor Pogue and Wisconsin's Gabrielle Anzalone were named Co-Freshman of the Year after turning in top-20 finishes at the Big Ten Championships. Seventeen Big Ten student-athletes have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as announced on Thursday. The teams are selected to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined athletic and academic performances.
First team honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team Ballot, which will be selected in June.

Michigan senior Danielle Tauro and head coach Mike McGuire have been named among the USTFCCCA Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year, as announced on Wednesday. Tauro took home Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year honors, while McGuire was named Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year.
Tauro paced the Wolverines at the Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, finishing in first place individually. The Wolverine senior is the first Michigan runner to earn the award since Nicole Edwards won it in 2007. McGuire guided Michigan to its eighth regional crown over the weekend en route to its eighth consecutive NCAA Championships appearance. McGuire collects his second regional Coach of the Year honor in the last four seasons after winning it in 2008.

Five Big Ten women's cross country teams have earned top-30 status in the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll heading into next week's NCAA Championships. After winning the Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, Michigan moves up five spots to No. 10 this week. Big Ten Champion Michigan State checks in at No. 15, while Penn State holds No. 21 Wisconsin moves up to No. 25 in the latest poll, while Minnesota rounds out the group of ranked Big Ten teams at No. 28.

Four Big Ten women's cross country teams have garnered top-30 rankings in the latest USTFCCCA Division I coaches' poll, with No. 15 Michigan State again leading the pack of conference teams. Michigan also earns top-20 status this week, holding No. 19. Penn State checks in at No. 26 with Iowa following at No. 27. Minnesota and Wisconsin are each receiving votes in the latest poll.
