Four Teams Earned Berths to NCAA Championships

Four Big Ten women's gymnastics teams earned berths to the NCAA Championships, as Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska and Penn State all advanced to the national meet, which will be held April 18-20 in Birmingham, Ala. The Fighting Illini will make their second consecutive appearance and fourth overall. The Wolverines will make their 21st appearance in program history, while the Cornhuskers advanced for the 22nd time in school history. The Nittany Lions will be making their first appearance at the NCAA Championships since 2009.

At least 579 Big Ten Medal of Honor recipients have been a part of teams that have won Big Ten Championships, including at least 44 who won conference titles all four years they competed. Big Ten Medal of Honor winners have won four straight crowns in the sports of men's basketball, men's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, men's track & field and wrestling.

Seven Big Ten Gymnasts Earn All-America Honors

Seven Big Ten women's gymnasts earned All-America honors by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches Association. Gymnasts are chosen based on their final individual ranks in all four positions and the all-around entering NCAA Regional competition. The top eight gymnasts in each event based on Regional Qualifying Scores are given first-team honors, while gymnasts ranked ninth through 16th are given second-team honors. Michigan's Joanna Sampson and Austin Sheppard, Minnesota's Lindsay Mable and Nebraska's Emily Wong were named to the first team, while Illinois' Amber See, Nebraska's Jessie DeZiel and Penn State's Kassidy Stauder earned second-team honors.

Six Teams Ranked in Latest GymInfo Poll

In the latest GymInfo Top 25 poll, six Big Ten women's gymnastics teams are ranked. Michigan checks in at No. 7, followed by No. 9 Nebraska, No. 11 Illinois and No. 14 Minnesota. Penn State and Ohio State are ranked No. 15 and No. 22, respectively.

Fifty-Two Gymnasts Tabbed Academic All-Big Ten

The Big Ten Conference on Wednesday recognized a total of 678 winter sports student-athletes who have been named to the Academic All-Conference team, which included 52 women's gymnasts. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

The list of players included 32 repeat winners, including three-time honorees Sarah Fiedler and Amber See of Illinois, Teresa Arthur of Michigan, Gillian Carr, Dani Levy and Alex Pace of Michigan State, Kayla Slechta of Minnesota, Jamie Schleppenbach and Emily Wong of Nebraska, Victoria Aepli, Alex DeLuca, Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer of Ohio State and Lindsay Musgrove of Penn State.

Football has the most Academic All-Big Ten selections (132), followed by track & field (84), swimming & diving (69), basketball (61), tennis (37), gymnastics (35), cross country (34), soccer (32) and volleyball (30).
