Northwestern's Marty Riessen (1964, tennis)
Marty Riessen won a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles with Australia's Margaret Court and seven mixed doubles majors overall. He also won two Grand Slam titles in men's doubles. Riessen swept Big Ten singles and doubles titles for three consecutive years and lost in the NCAA singles final in each of those years. A two-year letterwinner, he was a five-time member of the U.S. Davis Cup team and Dunlop Sport named one of its wooden racquets the "Marty Riessen."

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
A total of eight Big Ten tennis players earned 2014 ITA All-America recognition, the organization announced on Thursday, including seven men's tennis standouts and one women's tennis student-athlete. Illinois led all men's programs with four honorees as both Jared Hiltzik and Farris Gosea earned singles honors while Tim Kopinski and Ross Guignon garnered accolades in doubles. Minnesota's Leandro Toledo was named a singles All-American after reaching the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships last month. Ohio State added a pair of honorees as the national runner-up tandem of Peter Kobelt and Kevin Metka earned All-America status in doubles. Kobelt also was named a singles All-American, making him one of just seven men's tennis players to be named an All-American in both singles and doubles this season. He is now a four-time All-American, having achieved the same feat last season. On the women's side, Michigan's Emina Bektas was named an All-American for the second time in her career, earning the honor in singles this season after garnering the accolade in doubles last season.

To earn ITA All-America honors, a student-athlete must achieve one of the following:

- Singles - Top 16 seed in NCAA Singles Championship; reach round of 16 in NCAA Singles Championship; finish in the Top 20 of final ITA National Singles Rankings

- Doubles - Top eight seed in NCAA Doubles Championship; reach quarterfinals in NCAA Doubles Championship; finish in the Top 10 of final ITA National Doubles Rankings
