Entering the weekend, six Big Ten teams have a chance to claim a stake of the conference's regular season dual-meet championship. Minnesota currently holds first place in the Big Ten standings at 6-1, while Nebraska and Penn State are tied for second at 5-1. Illinois and Iowa share fourth place at 5-2 with Michigan rounding out the top six at 4-2. Minnesota, Nebraska and Penn State each have a chance to clinch the title outright this weekend, while Illinois, Iowa and Michigan each can claim a share. Below is a breakdown of the Big Ten regular season dual-meet title scenarios.
Minnesota clinches outright... If the Gophers defeat Nebraska on Sunday and Penn State loses to either Nebraska on Friday or Michigan on Sunday. Minnesota would finish 7-1 in the Big Ten.
Penn State clinches outright... If the Nittany Lions defeat Nebraska on Friday and Michigan on Sunday and Minnesota loses to Nebraska on Friday. Penn State would finish 7-1 in the Big Ten.
Nebraska clinches outright... If the Huskers defeat Penn State on Friday and Minnesota on Sunday. The wins would give Nebraska a 7-1 conference record.
Minnesota and Penn State share... If the Gophers defeat Nebraska on Friday and the Nittany Lions defeat both Nebraska and Michigan. Both teams would close the conference season with identical 7-1 records.
Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Penn State share... If Penn State defeats Nebraska, Ohio State defeats Michigan and Illinois defeats Wisconsin on Friday, and Nebraska defeats Minnesota, Michigan defeats Penn State and Iowa defeats Wisconsin on Sunday. All five teams would finish the conference season at 6-2.
Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Penn State share... If Penn State defeats Nebraska, Michigan defeats Ohio State and Illinois defeats Wisconsin on Friday, and Nebraska defeats Minnesota, Michigan defeats Penn State and Iowa defeats Wisconsin on Sunday. Sixty-six Big Ten wrestlers have garnered rankings in this week's InterMat College Rankings, with four Big Ten grapplers standing atop their weight class. Iowa's Matt McDonough returns to the No. 1 spot at 125 pounds this week, while Michigan 141-pounder Kellen Russell, and Penn State 149-pounder Frank Molinaro and 165-pounder David Taylor also earning the top ranking at their respective classes this week. With the Big Ten wrestling regular season winding down, six of the 12 conference teams still have a shot at the dual-meet title. Iowa handed Minnesota its first conference loss of the season on Sunday, but the Gophers remain in first place in the Big Ten at 6-1. Nebraska won back-to-back duals and Penn State topped Ohio State en route to a tie for second place at 5-1. After winning two contests last week, Illinois is tied with the Hawkeyes in fourth at 5-2, while Michigan is in sixth at 4-2 after splitting a pair of duals over the weekend.
