Buckeye CableSystem, a Multiple Cable System Operator serving over 150,000 customers in Northwest and North Central Ohio and in Southeast Michigan, announced today that it has reached agreement to carry the Big Ten Network when the new network launches this August. The Big Ten Network is a national network dedicated exclusively to Big Ten Conference television programming. The announcement was made today by Allan Block, managing director of Block Communications, parent company of Buckeye, and Mark Silverman, Big Ten Network president. Buckeye will carry the network in its expanded basic level of service and also will carry the network's HD feed.
Florence Buchanan, vice president sales and marketing, said Buckeye believes the network, dedicated to showcasing the nation's premier athletic and academic conference, will be an instant hit with Ohio State and University of Michigan fans. "We're really very pleased that our customers will be able to get the Big Ten Network from the beginning," she said. "Our entire service area is obviously Big Ten country, and I expect the Big Ten Network to become a popular destination very, very quickly."
Silverman said that Buckeye, in agreeing to carry the network, is in tune with its customers - the passionate Big Ten fans who live in its service area. "Buckeye believes that the network is compelling and attractive to its subscribers, who will enjoy unparalleled coverage of Big Ten sports, as well as campus programming featuring entertaining stories about what's happening at their favorite universities," he said.
The Big Ten Network will be the destination for Big Ten fans across the country. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Big Ten Network will showcase a wide array of classic-to-current sports, including more than 350 live events, as well as original programming produced by the network and by the conference's 11 member institutions.
This year, the network will offer over 35 football games, over 105 regular season men's basketball games, more than 55 women's basketball games, Big Ten Championships, over 170 Olympic sporting events, coaches' shows, a nightly studio show and over 600 hours of campus programming showcasing activities and accomplishments of some of the nation's finest universities.
