Big Ten Medal of Honor: Max Stearns, Ohio State Men's Fencing

Max Stearns (fencing), a veteran fencer for the men's sabre squad, has acquired both individual and team accolades in his tenure at Ohio State. The Minnesota native was a member of the silver medal-winning team at the Junior World Championships in 2010 where he helped secure the first team medal ever for Canada at a World Championship. After other notable honors in 2010, Stearns, a member of the Canadian Senior National Team, competed at the 2011 Pan-American Championships where his team won the silver medal. In 2012, Stearns notched a third place individual title at the NCAA Championships along with the team's 2012 National Champion title. He was also honored as a 2012 First Team All-American. In his time as a Buckeye, Stearns has been a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, a 2010 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and a two-time member of the Big Ten All-Academic Team (2010, 2012). He has spent seven terms on the Dean's List and will graduate in May with a degree in political science.
