2012 Suzy Favor Female Athlete of the Year Nominee - Northwestern's Taylor Thornton

Taylor Thornton is Northwestern's nominee for the Suzy Favor Female Athlete of the Year award.

Through Monday, the Big Ten will highlight each of the 24 student-athletes nominated for the conference’s Jesse Owens Male and Suzy Favor Female Athlete of the Year Awards. Award winners are voted on by a pre-selected media panel and will be announced live on BTN’s season-ending awards show on Monday at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Taylor Thornton – Northwestern – Lacrosse
Thornton guided Northwestern to the NCAA Championship after scoring the game-winning goal in the contest. The junior was awarded the Lacrosse Honda Sports Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding performer, and was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, which is equivalent to college football’s Heisman Trophy. She was also named American Lacrosse Player of the Year, first-team IWLCA All-American, first-team All-American Lacrosse Conference and All-Tournament Team at the NCAA Championship and American Lacrosse Conference Tournament. Thornton moved into the top-10 all-time at Northwestern in career caused turnovers (7th), ground balls (7th) and draw controls (8th) with one season remaining in her career.
