Learfield Sports has appointed Scott Bailey to serve as general manager for “Big Ten Sports Properties” – the newly established, Chicago-based entity designed to oversee the long-term partnership between the collegiate marketer and the Big Ten Conference that was announced last month.
Bailey brings nearly 20 years sports industry experience to the Learfield Sports’ property. He will be responsible for spearheading all aspects of the relationship, which charges Learfield Sports with delivering strategic corporate partnership initiatives for the Big Ten Conference through media, corporate hospitality, presenting sponsorships of select championships and tournaments, venue exposure, branding opportunities and product sampling.
Most recently, Bailey was senior director of corporate sales for the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. Prior to that, he served as assistant vice president and general manager for ISP Sports’ Mid-American Conference property in Cleveland and handled national corporate partnerships for Six Flags Theme Parks. His other experience includes serving as director of national sales for the Professional Bowlers Association, as well as in various sales and marketing roles with teams such as the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, MLB’s Cleveland Indians, Grand Rapids Hoops (CBA) and the Canton Invaders (NPSL). Bailey is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and began his sports marketing career interning with IMG.

Learfield Sports is an operating unit of Jefferson City, Mo.-based Learfield Communications, Inc., which made its initial foray into the world of sports marketing in 1975 as the radio rights holder for the University of Missouri, a client still today.
