The USA men’s basketball team defeated Greece in preliminary play on Thursday, 92-69.  Former Illinois guard Deron Williams played over 23 minutes scoring five points with two rebounds and three assists.  Ohio State alum Michael Redd knocked down a three-point field goal in the win, along with a rebound and an assist.

Former Big Ten swimmers Mike Brown (Minnesota) and Scott Spann (Michigan) finished fourth in sixth in the finals of the men’s 200-meter breastroke.

Former Michigan volunteer assistant coach Michael Phelps moved on in the 200-meter individual melody placing second in the semifinals behind USA teammate Ryan Lochte.

Indiana pitching alum Mariangee Bogado pitched 2.1 innings without giving up an earned run in Venezuela’s loss to Chinese Taipei in softball preliminary play.
