Barbora Spotakova, formerly of Minnesota, won the gold in the women's javelin throw representing the Czech Republic.
Former Indiana standout David Neville took home the bronze in the 400-meter dash. Neville helped the USA complete a sweep in the event with LaShawn Merritt winning gold and Jeremy Wariner taking the silver.
The USA women's basketball team advanced to the gold medal game with a 67-52 win over Russia. Former Ohio State player Katie Smith scored five points with two rebounds and four assists.
The United States women's volleyball team defeated Cuba, 3-0. Lindsey Berg, a Minnesota alum, played a major role in the win.
