Big Ten Daily Olympic Recap - August 21
Aug. 21, 2008 Barbora Spotakova, formerly of Minnesota, won the gold in the women's javelin throw representing the Czech Republic. Former Indiana standout David Neville took home the bronze in the 400-meter dash. Neville helped the USA complete a sweep in the event with LaShawn Merritt winning gold and Jeremy Wariner taking the silver. The USA women's basketball team advanced to the gold medal game with a 67-52 win over Russia. Former Ohio State player Katie Smith scored five points with two rebounds and four assists. The United States women's volleyball team defeated Cuba, 3-0. Lindsey Berg, a Minnesota alum, played a major role in the win. |
