Huskies, Spartans Climb the Ranks

First through third place separated by just two points

We’re over halfway through the Big Ten Men’s Soccer season with the conference tournament kicking off in just a few weeks. No. 2 Indiana played a non-conference opponent this weekend, giving the rest of the league a chance to gain ground in the regular season title race — three teams near the top of the table took advantage.

Thirty-Six Seconds Tie Huskies for First

After Northwestern scored in the first half, No. 14 Washington trailed 1-0 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. Just when it looked like the Wildcats could close out the upset, Washington midfielder Zach Ramsey sent a corner kick into the box and connected with Osato Enabulele to knot the score in the 81st minute. A Northwestern foul just 36 seconds later put Ramsey on the penalty dot, and the junior buried his nation-leading 14th goal of the season to secure the Huskies’ comeback — and a tie for first place in the Big Ten Men’s Soccer standings. Spartans Upset Maryland, Move into Second Place

For the first time since 2014, No. 19 Michigan State came away with a win in College Park against No. 7 Maryland. The Spartans struck first when Richie Ludwig’s corner kick bounced off a Terp defender for an own goal in the 18th minute, but Maryland punched back with a 35th-minute blast from Said El Eyssami to tie the score at one.

In the second half, Will Eby’s service from the right side found Andrew Darakdjian in front of the goal, and his crafty redirection got past reigning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year Laurin Mack for the 2-1 lead.

No. 21 UCLA’s win over Ohio State also keeps the Bruins right behind in third (11 points). Check out the upcoming schedule and current standings.
