Michigan, Iowa Vie for Final Tournament Bid

Plus, seven more teams battle for seeding and postseason momentum

With the Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament Presented by Allstate kicking off next week, each Big Ten squad hopes to build momentum in the final games of the regular season — and two are eyeing the final bid.

Last Team in: Wolverines or Hawkeyes?

Seven teams have already clinched their spots in the Big Ten Tournament, leaving Michigan (17 points) and Iowa (16 points) battling to be the last team in.

Michigan takes on rival Ohio State, who has already clinched the regular season championship. To snap the No. 3-ranked Buckeyes’ eight match win streak, the Wolverines will turn to Ella Jablinskey, who has come up huge for the Maize and Blue this season and leads the team with eight goals. She’ll need to get past OSU keeper Peighton Northrup, who’s tied for first in the Big Ten with nine shutouts in 15 games after allowing just six goals all season. Tune in on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on B1G+.

Hoping to overtake the Wolverines is Iowa, who faces Wisconsin on Friday night. Both teams have won three straight matches — each including a win against a top-15 team. Keep an eye on forward Reilly Heman to come through for the Hawkeyes in this one; the fourth-year is third in the Big Ten with nine goals. She’ll have teammates Millie Greer and Braelynn Galt alongside her, who brought two of the weekly awards back to Iowa City. Watch on Friday at 8 p.m. ET on B1G+.

Seeding on the Line

Elsewhere, the seven teams who have clinched bids in the tournament have one last chance to improve their position in the bracket. Just one point separates No. 18 Purdue (25 points), No. 14 UCLA (25 points), and No. 6 Michigan State (24 points) behind the Buckeyes (30 points) at the top of the standings, making Friday’s contests pivotal for securing favorable first-round matchups and building confidence heading into the postseason.
