In one of the wildest upsets we’ve seen so far this season, Purdue defeated No. 21 Michigan in a 6-5 rollercoaster game that featured three braces.
The Boilers' offensive engine chugged through the first half of the matchup, finding the back of the net four times. Jaiden Anderson finished on a beautiful through ball from Irene Campo in the 12th minute before making it a brace just six minutes later. Two first career tallies tacked onto Purdue’s lead with Addison Feldman burying a rebound (30’) and Emilia Deppe blasting a shot from just inside the 18 (43’).
Even with 45 minutes left to play, a four-goal deficit is a climb not many teams can make. But that didn’t matter to the Wolverines, who roared back with a five-goal second half. Lilley Bosley headed in a cross, Elle Ervin scored on a PK, and Ella Jablinskey beat out the whole back line and finished her chance, making it 4-3 Boilers with still 25 minutes remaining.
Purdue responded with a set-piece goal in the 73rd minute from Rosa Maalouf that found its way across the line, but it was Jablinskey who responded for the Wolverines again, dribbling from the right side to the middle before blasting a laser to the upper-left corner to keep it a one-goal game. A foul in the 81st minute gave Purdue’s Megan Santa Cruz her chance to convert a penalty, but Bosley and the Wolverines responded 20 seconds later on a third chance off a cross to make it 6-5. The Boilers held on, with Grace Miller making a 90th-minute save to preserve the upset.
