Rosemont, Ill. - Big Ten programs help open the 2014 NCAA baseball season this weekend as all 11 squads are scheduled to take the field for the first time. Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State and Purdue each have opening-weekend series scheduled, while Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Ohio State are each slated to take part in various tournaments around the country.
Indiana was selected as the unanimous preseason Big Ten favorite following a vote of the conference coaches. Nebraska was selected to finish second, followed by No. 3 Ohio State and No. 4 Michigan State, with Illinois and Michigan tied for fifth.
