All 10 Big Ten teams are in action as the 2011 college baseball season begins on Friday. Highlighting the season-opening weekend is the third annual Big East-Big Ten Challenge in St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Fla.

Indiana opens its schedule at the Caravelle Resort Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where the Hoosiers will face Virginia Tech, Boston College and Coastal Carolina.

Northwestern begins its season in Lubbock, Texas, at the Red Raider Classic, facing Utah Valley, Western Michigan and Texas Tech twice.

The remaining eight squads are in action at the Big East-Big Ten Challenge. The Big Ten holds a 28-26 advantage in the event, having won the inaugural tournament, 15-9. The Big East won last year’s Challenge, 17-13. More information can be found at www.bigeastbigtenbaseballchallenge.com.

On Tuesday, the Big Ten unveiled the results of its first ever preseason baseball poll and Players to Watch list. The conference coaches selected Minnesota as the Big Ten favorite in 2011 and recognized three players from their team. Complete results can be found by clicking HERE.
