Big Ten Player of the Week
Matt Cavagnaro, Penn State

Cavagnaro batted. 421 (8-for-19) in Penn State's opening four games with at least one hit in each contest and three multi-hit games. The senior tallied nine total bases on the weekend and drove in two runs while scoring one and belting a double. Cavagnaro has hit safely in his last seven games dating back to last season, and with 17 perfect fielding chances over the weekend, has not committed an error in his last 88 attempts dating back to 2006.

Big Ten Pitcher of the Week
Scott Gaffney, Penn State
Jr., P, Westbury, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial
Making his first start since age 12, Gaffney picked up the win in Penn State's first victory of the season against Centenary on Sunday. The junior allowed just three runs off eight singles and struck out five through six innings. Gaffney, the team's regular starting shortstop, had previously made just 12 relief appearances in two years with the Lions.
