BIG TEN BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Roof earns his first career Player of the Week honor after leading Michigan State to a 2-1 start on the season with wins over Furman and Miami (Ohio). The junior hit for a .636 average with a 1.273 slugging percentage while reaching base at a .692 clip, combining for an OPS of 1.965. The shortstop opened the season with three hits, including an RBI double, a run and a stolen base, in Michigan State's 8-6 win over Furman on Friday. The following day against No. 15 Clemson, he went 2-for-3 with a solo home run. In the weekend finale, Roof went 2-for-3 with another solo shot, two runs scored and a pair of walks as the Spartans took the game, 11-5. Roof becomes the first Spartan position player in over two years to be named Big Ten Player of the Week.

Wimmers earns Pitcher of the Week honors after leading No. 21 Ohio State in its season-opening win over North Florida on Friday. The preseason All-American pitched six shutout innings, ringing up nine strikeouts, while allowing just one hit and a walk in the outing to pick up the win. The weekly award is the fifth of Wimmers' career, as he was honored four times last season.
