BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Butler, Michigan
SR, OF, Lombard, IL/Driscoll Catholic
Butler picked up Player of the Week accolades after collecting back-to-back ninth inning game-winning hits against two teams ranked among the top 10 nationally to wrap up Michigan's spring trip. The senior outfielder launched a two-run walk-off home run with one out in the ninth to beat No. 9 Georgia and followed that by stroking a one-out double in the top of the ninth to provide the lone run in a 1-0 triumph over No. 4 North Carolina. Butler, the only Wolverine to collect at least one hit in all seven spring trip games, batted .353 in four games last week (6-for-17) with two doubles, two homers, seven runs batted in and four runs scored
BIG TEN PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Trent Luyster, Ohio State
SR, LHP, Flushing, Ohio/Harrison Central
Luyster was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week after leading the Buckeyes to a 2-1 victory over No. 4 North Carolina, allowing only one run while scattering seven hits over six innings. The senior lefthander struck out four batters while producing only one walk to boost Ohio State to its first win over a top 25 opponent since 2003, when OSU defeated Clemson and Auburn during the NCAA Regionals. Luyster, who returned to Columbus after being drafted by the Chicago Cubs last year, is the first Buckeyes hurler to be honored this season.
