Michigan State and Ohio State Standouts Earn Weekly Baseball Honors

Ryan Basham, Michigan State

After starting the season 0-3, Basham helped the Spartans even their record to 3-3 this past week, picking up two wins against Lehigh (6-3, 15-6) and Sacred Heart (8-2). Playing three games in three days, Basham hit .583 (7-for-12) with a home run, two doubles and seven RBI. In the second game against Lehigh, Basham set a career-high with five RBI. Producing a hit in each of the Spartans six games this season, the junior has extended his hitting streak to 20 games, which dates back to May 7, 2005.

Cory Luebke, Ohio State

Luebke struck out eight batters in a 12-2 victory last Friday over UNC Greensboro at the Kennel Club Classic in Jacksonville, Fla. The win was the team's second of the season. His eight strikeouts were one off his career high of nine and he allowed only one unearned run on five hits, while walking just one batter. The Buckeye sophomore posted two strikeouts in his final inning before giving way to Dan Barker, who entered the eighth inning with a 12-1 lead.
