BIG TEN BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cameron Perkins, Purdue
So., 3B, Indianapolis, Ind. / Southport
Perkins picks up Player of the Week honors after leading Purdue to a series win against Michigan over the weekend. The third baseman hit .636 over the three-game set, recording multiple hits in every contest. He reached base at a .692 clip and slugged 1.000 to combine for an OPS of 1.692. He also scored a run, drove in five, tallied two doubles and a triple and went 2-for-2 on the base paths against the Wolverines. The sophomore is riding a 13-game hitting streak and reached base safely in 10 of his 14 plate appearances against Michigan.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Bucciferro takes home Pitcher of the Week accolades after tossing his third career complete-game shutout to lead the Spartans to a 2-0 victory against Minnesota on Saturday. The junior scattered five hits without surrendering a walk and struck out a pair, picking up his sixth win of the season. The victory marked Michigan State’s first shutout win over Minnesota since 1991 and was the Spartans’ fourth shutout victory against the Gophers in series history. Michigan State went on to sweep the three-game set, marking the Spartans’ first-ever three-game sweep over Minnesota.

CO-FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Ethan Bramschreiber, Northwestern
RHP, Glendora, Calif. / St. Francis
Bramschreiber earns Freshman of the Week honors after a shutout relief appearance against Penn State on Saturday. The freshman logged 4.2 innings out of the bullpen, surrendering just one hit and two walks while retiring 10 of the first 11 batters he faced. Bramschreiber racked up six strikeouts, setting a new career high, and now leads all Northwestern pitchers with a season ERA of 1.62.

Wetzel collects Freshman of the Week accolades after hitting .462 against Indiana over the weekend. The freshman tallied at least one hit in each game he played last week, including a three-hit performance in Sunday’s finale, during which he also scored two runs and drove in a pair. The center fielder also went 1-for-2 with three walks in a non-conference game against Miami (Ohio), upping his weekly average to .467. Wetzel scored five runs overall on the week, went 1-for-1 on the base paths and extended his hitting streak to six games.
