BIG TEN BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

PLAYER AND CO-FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Josh Dezse, Ohio State
Fr., 1B/RHP, Powell, Ohio / Olentangy Liberty
Dezse becomes the first freshman this season to be named Big Ten Player of the Week after leading Ohio State to a series win over Michigan State. The first baseman hit .727 in the series, reaching base at a .786 clip and slugging for a 1.273 mark to combine for an OPS of 2.059. He recorded multiple hits in each game, including a career-best four hits in the finale, going 4-for-4 with a decisive three-run triple and five total RBI. The freshman also tacked on a double and a home run in the series, scoring one run and driving in eight over three games. Dezse also pitched the ninth inning of Game 3, recording two strikeouts to secure the win.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Sinnery picks up the first weekly honor of his career after tossing a complete-game shutout in Michigan’s 3-0 win over Illinois on Sunday. The right-hander scattered four hits and one walk in nine innings, setting a career high with nine strikeouts. The first five outs of the game all came via the strikeout, and Sinnery retired the side in order in the second, fourth, seventh and ninth innings. The performance was the team’s first complete game and first shutout of the season and the program’s first complete-game nine-inning shutout since 2006.

CO-FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Joey DeNato, Indiana
LHP, San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines
DeNato picks up Freshman of the Week honors after striking out 11 in an eight-inning shutout performance against Iowa on Sunday, leading the Hoosiers to the series victory. The left-hander scattered four hits and four walks without surrendering a run over eight innings and tied the program record for most strikeouts in a Big Ten game. In conference play this season, the freshman holds a 1.15 ERA and has held opponents to a .145 batting average.
