BIG TEN BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Willie Argo, Illinois
Jr., CF, Davenport, Iowa / Assumption
Argo collects Player of the Week honors after leading Illinois to a series win against Michigan State, pulling the Fighting Illini to within one game of the top spot in the Big Ten standings. The center fielder hit .444 in the series, reaching base at a .545 clip and slugging 1.222 to combine for an OPS of 1.767. The junior scored five runs in the three-game set and drove in seven of his team’s 21 runs in the series. He belted one double and two home runs against the Spartans and was 3-for-3 with runners on base, including 2-for-2 with runners in scoring position. The weekly accolade is the third of Argo’s career, as he was also honored as a freshman in 2009 and as a sophomore last season.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Farrell earns Pitcher of the Week accolades after throwing eight shutout innings in Northwestern’s 14-1 victory against Purdue on Saturday. The sophomore held the Boilermaker offense, which entered the series leading the Big Ten in hitting, to no runs on six hits while striking out seven. The win moved Farrell’s overall record to 4-1 and improved his conference ERA to 2.77, which ranks ninth in the Big Ten.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Tom Windle, Minnesota
LHP, Maple Grove, Minn. / Osseo
Windle claims his second Freshman of the Week honor after helping the Golden Gophers to a series sweep at Indiana over the weekend. The left-hander entered the first game of the series in relief following a lengthy rain delay with the score tied at 2-2 in the top of the sixth. The freshman tossed four perfect innings, retiring all 12 batters he faced, including four via the strikeout, to pick up the win. Windle threw 47 pitches in the outing, 35 of which were strikes.
