BIG TEN BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Pete Cappetta, Illinois
Sr., 2B, Lisle, Ill. / Montini Catholic
Cappetta takes home Player of the Week honors after leading Illinois to a series win at Northwestern over the weekend. The senior hit .667 in the three-game set and reached base at a .714 clip with a slugging percentage of 1.000, combining for an OPS of 1.714. He also scored five runs, drove in three, stole a base and hit a double and a home run. The second baseman capped the weekend with his third career four-hit game, including his first homer of the season, a three-run shot in the second. Cappetta went 3-for-3 with runners on base during the series, including a 2-for-2 performance with runners in scoring position. The weekly award marks the first of Cappetta’s career and the second consecutive for the Fighting Illini this season.

CO-PLAYER and FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Josh Dezse, Ohio State
Fr., 1B/RHP, Powell, Ohio / Olentangy Liberty
Dezse picks up his second Player of the Week honor and his fourth Freshman of the Week accolade after leading Ohio State to a sweep of Michigan over the weekend. The first baseman hit .600, reached base at a .667 clip and slugged 1.000 to combine for an OPS of 1.667. He also scored three runs and drove in six in the series. The freshman contributed a game-changing three-run home run in Game 1 of the series and belted a two-run double in Game 2 that tied the score at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth. Dezse also took the mound in Games 1 and 2, striking out all three batters he faced on Friday while finishing both games and getting the win in Game 2.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jarred Hippen, Iowa

Hippen collects Pitcher of the Week honors after falling one batter shy of a perfect game on Friday against Minnesota. The junior needed just 72 pitches, 76 percent of which were strikes, to get through eight innings, surrendering just one hit. The left-hander struck out two in the process, recording Iowa’s first one-hitter since 1998. The weekly honor is the first of Hippen’s career and the second pitching accolade for the Hawkeyes this season.
