The Big Ten Conference office announced today that it concurs with Penn State's public reprimand of baseball head coach Robbie Wine and student-athletes Scott Gummo and Lance Thompson for violating the Big Ten Sportslike Conduct Agreement.
In accordance with penalties established in Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01.1.A.3, Penn State publicly reprimands Wine, Gummo and Thompson for their comments during baseball games against Indiana on April 29, 2006.
"The comments of the Penn State head coach and student-athletes have no place in the sport of baseball or the Big Ten Conference and are considered unacceptable by the conference office," Commissioner James E. Delany said. "The Big Ten will not tolerate the use of inappropriate language towards an official, student-athlete, coach or spectator. We support Penn State's public reprimand and will continue to reinforce the ideals of sportsmanship across all of our institutions."
The Big Ten Conference considers this matter concluded and will have no further comment.
