May 20, 2009 Final: Indiana 9, Purdue 1 5:53 p.m.: A sacrifice fly by John Cummins drives in Haveman to get the Boilers on the board in the eighth. Dan Black follows with a two-out triple. 5:50 p.m.: Vicini's outing is short-lived as Joey O'Gara comes on in relief with a runner on third and one out. 5:48 p.m.: Unanimous All-Big Ten outfielder Brandon Haveman sparks the Boilermakers with a leadoff double to center. 5:46 p.m.: As we enter the eighth, Joe Vicini is on in relief of Haveman, who pitched seven scoreless frames and gave up just four hits. 5:37 p.m.: Headed into the seventh, it's 9-0 Indiana and Arnett is still on the mound. 5:11 p.m.: Indiana gets five in the fifth to extend its lead to 8-0 as we head to the sixth. Arnett is back on the mound for the Hoosiers having given up just three hits in the game. 5:00 p.m.: A run-scoring single from Jake Dunning chases Haase from the game, making it 7-0. The Boilers bring on righty Jeff Straub who is greeted by a one-run double off the bat of Brian Lambert. 4:57 p.m.: Third-baseman Vince Gonzalez follows with a run-scoring double of his own, off the wall in center, the deepest part of the field. 4:55 p.m.: Designated hitter Michael Earley welcomes Haase with a two-run double into left, making it 5-0 Hoosiers. 4:51 p.m.: A single by Schutz forces Bischoff from the game in the fifth. Right-hander Joe Haase on for the Boilermakers. 4:40 p.m.: Indiana tacks on another one in the bottom of the fourth to go up, 3-0. 4:27 p.m.: Black steps up to the plate with one on and one out. He jacked a 400-foot bomb in batting practice yesterday and holds the tournament records for most home runs in a single tournament game (3 vs. Indiana in 2008) and in a single tournament (5 in 2008).
4:23 p.m.: Bischoff gets out of it and it's 2-0 Indiana through three. Ben Wolgamot, John Cummins and Dan Black due up for the Boilers. 4:20 p.m.: An RBI single by Josh Phegley makes it 2-0 Indiana. A walk to Kipp Schutz gives the Hoosiers runners on first with two outs. 4:11 p.m.: Follow pitch-by-pitch on GameTracker. 4:06 p.m.: We're through two in Columbus with Indiana holding a 1-0 lead on Hervey's blast. 3:56 p.m.: Scouts are filling the stands at Huntington Park as Arnett hits 94 on the radar gun. 3:53 p.m.: Fun Fact - Chris Hervey has a popular blog on Ping!Baseball. 3:45 p.m.: Chris Hervey puts Indiana on the board with a solo shot to right in the bottom of the first. 3:40 p.m.: Game 2 is underway! No. 3 Indiana sends Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Year Eric Arnett to the mound to face No. 6 Purdue's Matt Bischoff. |
