Player of the Week

Goebbert batted an astounding .750 (12-for-16) as Northwestern swept Purdue over the weekend. The freshman added eight RBI, three doubles, a triple and scored six runs in the four-game series to accumulate a slugging percentage of 1.063. Goebbert also recorded a sacrifice fly and walked once without striking out during the weekend for an on-base average of .765, giving him an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.828. The first baseman tallied multiple hits in each game, including a 4-for-5 performance in Game 1 of the series where he drove in three runs and scored one to lead the Wildcats to a 12-3 win. The award is the second of Goebbert's career as he was also honored on the first week of the season.

Toohey recorded a win and a save in two Illinois victories against Michigan State over the weekend. On Friday, the senior came in with two out in the eighth to preserve the victory before clinching the Illini's come-from-behind bid on Sunday. Needing a win to earn a trip to the Big Ten Tournament, Toohey held the Spartans scoreless through the last 4.1 innings as the Illini plated eight unanswered runs to take the lead. The right-hander recorded three timely strikeouts in the outing, including one with runners in scoring position and no outs in the sixth, and another to end the game. The senior also pitched two innings of perfect relief earlier in the week, striking out a pair against No. 17 Missouri on Tuesday. The award is the first of Toohey's career.
