PARK RIDGE, Ill.  - Illinois was selected to the 2011 NCAA Baseball Championship, the NCAA Selection Committee announced on Monday. The Fighting Illini are the No. 4 seed in the Fullerton, Calif., Regional, and will take on No. 1 Cal State Fullerton (40-15) on June 3.
 
Illinois will also have the chance to face Stanford (32-20) and Kansas State (36-23) who are the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds, respectively, in the double-elimination regional. All games of the Fullerton Regional will be broadcast by ESPNU.

The Illini earned the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship by sweeping through the Big Ten Tournament bracket, earning their fourth tournament title. Illinois entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed after sharing the conference championship, the program's 29th overall and first since 2005.

The NCAA Championship appearance is Illinois' ninth and first since the Illini won the automatic bid in 2000. The appearance is Dan Hartleb's first as a head coach.

The opening weekend of the NCAA Championship features 16-four-team regionals playing in a double-elimination format. Regional play runs from June 3-6, with the 16 winners advancing to super-regional play. The eight two-team Super Regional sites will be determined on Monday, June 6, with play scheduled to begin Friday, June 10, in a best-of-three series. The Men's College World Series will take place June 18-29, at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
