Michigan Downs Stetson, 11-1, in Regional Game Two

ATLANTA - Michigan's left-handed pitcher Paul Hammond (8-4) threw eight scoreless innings, notching his team-leading sixth complete game of the season, allowing one run and struck out six, while Eric Rose went 3-for-4, with three runs batted in and a home run (2), to lead the third-seeded Wolverines (43-20) past No. 4 seed Stetson (38-24), 11-1, in an elimination game at the NCAA Atlanta Regional at Russ Chandler Stadium on Saturday.
The Wolverines advance to take on the loser of No. 1 seed Georgia Tech (46-16) and No. 2 seed Vanderbilt (37-25) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
UM's Nate Recknagel drove in three runs for the Wolverines, finishing 2-for-5 with a double, while A.J. Scheidt smacked two doubles and went 2-for-5. Leif Mahler, Adam Abraham and Derek VanBuskirk added two hits for U of M.
Stetson's left-handed pitcher Chris Ingoglia (6-2) went 5.1 innings, allowing 10 hits, nine runs, five earned runs and struck out six in the loss. Chris Johnson led the Hatters offensively, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
The Hatters scored the game's first run on a two-out single off the bat of Johnson to take an early 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
The Wolverines responded with three consecutive singles to start the top of the second inning and tallied four runs, thanks to RBI singles by VanBuskirk and Mike Schmidt, along with a two-run home run by Rose, his second of the season, as U of M took a 4-1 lead.
Mahler drove in a run for the Wolverines in the top of the fifth inning on a RBI double down the left field line as Michigan took a 5-1 lead. Full Story
