“When Indianapolis bid on the 2008-12 Big Ten Basketball Tournaments, we promised a two-week celebration of Big Ten basketball and the 11 universities,” said Rick Fuson, co-chair of the 2008-12 Big Ten Basketball Tournaments Local Organizing Committee. “The Big Ten Hoops Day 5K provides another outlet for Big Ten fans to support their universities and enjoy downtown Indianapolis. This truly is an event for all comers – Big Ten alums and fans, runners and walkers, children and adults.”
The Hoops Day 5K adds to the overall Big Ten fan experience in Indianapolis that includes 20 Big Ten Tournament games, the Big Ten Middle School Program, Big Ten Conference Career Expo, Big Ten Thinks Pink, pep rallies and the Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award presented by the Indianapolis Big Ten Community Partnership.
“The city of Indianapolis, Indiana Sports Corporation and Pacers Sports & Entertainment have continued to enhance the Big Ten Basketball Tournaments,” said Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany. “The 2009 event will enjoy the addition of the Big Ten Hoops Day 5K. The 5K will accompany the existing Career Expo and Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award, which are showcased during the tournaments. The 5K is another great event that makes Indianapolis a uniquely-qualified host site for this celebration of Big Ten basketball.”
