MEN'S BASKETBALL
TOURNAMENT
Game Three • March 10, 2005 • United Center • Chicago, Ill.
#6 Ohio State 72, #11 Penn State 69

OHIO STATE COACH/PLAYER QUOTES
Head Coach Thad Matta:
Opening Statement:

"It was a very tough game. I think Penn State deserves a lot of credit. They took us out of what we were trying to do. We came out and didn't have the energy to play in this game. It wasn't a pretty win, but, somehow, someway we found a way to win this basketball game. We came here to win this game, and we are fortunate that we did."

On not letting down after the win over Illinois:
"We had two good practices coming in. It's hard to figure out what guys are thinking. I told them that I was disappointed with their effort in the beginning, but we somehow found a way to win a basketball game."

On Penn State's Performance:
"Penn State came out to play today. They knocked us on our heels. At the beginning, it was, `I can't believe this is happening to us,' and, in college basketball, if you feel sorry for yourself you are going to get ran out of the gymnasium."

Tony Stockman
On second half sense of urgency:

"If today was going to be my last day, I wanted to enjoy it and have some fun.  I came out aggressive and knocked some shots down."

On second half shooting-percentage increase:
"Maybe we can blame it on the first time playing here.  We settled down and started picking up defenses.  We were getting the same shots but they started to fall."

Terence Dials:
On what Coach Matta told the team when down 16:

"He flat out got after us.  It seems like every time he gets on us, which is not often, we seem to respond and pick it up.  Hopefully it doesn't take him to lose his voice next game to pick it up.  We just can't play flat like we did in the first half."

PENN STATE COACH/PLAYER QUOTES
Head Coach Ed Dechellis:
Opening Statement:

"I thought it was obviously a very good basketball game.  I thought we played a very good first half.  They found a rhythm in the second half.  The last 10 minutes of the game we couldn't get a basket."

On how Penn State played in the second half:
"You can't turn the ball over 13 times in a half and expect to win.  We made some silly passes offensively with the ball."

Travis Parker:
On any defensive adjustments in the second half:

"We really did not do anything different. They just found different ways to get the ball into a good position to score."

Geary Claxton:
On Ohio State's vulnerability coming off their victory against Illinois:

"We knew we could take them inside and score some buckets. We just came out to have fun and play hard. Unfortunately we just fell short tonight."
