GAME NOTES

The No. 5 seed improves to 3-5 in games against No. 4 seeds, including winning three straight.  Minnesota improves to 3-5 (vacated 2-2 record from 1998 and 1999 tournaments due to NCAA sanctions) in Big Ten Tournament (BTT) games.  The Golden Gophers advanced to the semifinals once before and lost to Michigan in the 1998 BTT (vacated loss due to NCAA sanctions).  Minnesota has won five straight games entering tomorrow's semifinal game vs. Illinois at 12:40 CST.  The No. 5 seed is 0-2 in BTT semifinal contests.  Minnesota is 0-2 vs. Illinois in BTT games (L, 67-64 in 1999 first round and L, 92-76 in 2002 quarterfinals).

No. 5 Minnesota became the first team to defeat a higher seed (No. 4 Indiana) in the 2005 BTT.

Today was the first BTT meeting between the two teams.  Minnesota and Indiana split the regular season meetings, with each team winning on its respective home court.

Indiana falls to 7-8 in BTT games, including 3-5 in quarterfinal contests.  The Hoosiers drop to 5-7 in BTT games played at the United Center.

Minnesota is the first team to have four players net double figures in the 2005 BTT.  Vincent Grier paced Minnesota with 16 points, followed by Brent Lawson (15), Aaron Robinson (14) and Dan Coleman (11).  Illinois had three players score double digits in Game 4.

Minnesota's Aaron Robinson drained four 3-pointers moving him into third place on Minnesota's single season 3-point field goals made list with 62.

Minnesota collected five steals, which matches its school single season record (276).  The Golden Gophers also collected 276 steals during the 1989-90 season.

Minnesota's Jeff Hagen established a new school BTT game record with four blocks.  The previous record was two set by three players.  The four rejections were a game high.  Additionally, teammate Spencer Tollackson matched a career-high with three blocks.  He previously rejected three shots vs. Chicago State (12/15/04).

Minnesota established a new school BTT record for blocks in a game (8).  The Golden Gophers rejected five of the eight in the first half.

Indiana assisted on 15 of its 19 field goals.  Fifty-three of its 55 points came from the Hoosiers' starters.

Indiana's D.J. White blocked five Golden Gopher shots, matching the third-best single game individual performance in BTT game history.  It equaled five rejections by Calvin Booth (Penn State) on 3/4/99.

White posted game highs in points (21) and rebounds (10) in addition to his five blocked shots, recording the first double-double in this year's BTT.  Seven of his 10 boards were offensive.

Minnesota had two fewer turnovers (UM 10, IU 11), marking 21st time in the last 23 BTT game the team with the fewest turnovers has been victorious.  In addition, teams are 5-0 in the 2005 BTT when having fewer miscues.

No team in the first five games of the BTT has shot 50 percent or better from the field.  Illinois has the best shooting percentage for a single game, converting 48.1 percent (25-52) of its attempts vs. Northwestern in game 4.

Today marked this first time the Golden Gophers did not have to play a BTT first round game.  Minnesota's fifth seed is its highest seed in a BTT; the Golden Gophers were a No. 6 seed in 1999 and 2002.

Today's session two attendance was 22,413, which is the third-highest BTT single session mark.  The top-ranked single session attendance figure is 23,509 (Session 4, 2001), while 22,437 (Session 2, 2001) ranks second.
