Kalin Lucas, Michigan State
6-0 - Sophomore Guard
Sterling Heights, Mich. / Orchard Lake-St. Mary's
Kalin Lucas garners his first weekly laurel of the season after averaging 21.0 points per game to lead Michigan State to a pair of victories against Ohio State and defending national champion Kansas last week. In Tuesday's contest against the Buckeyes, the Spartan sophomore netted 20 points on 6-of-8 (.750) shooting from the field and 6-of-7 (.857) from the charity stripe. Lucas then went on to post 22 points against Kansas on 5-of-11 (.455) shooting from the floor and 9-of-10 (.900) from the foul line. His performance marked his third 20-point game of the season and fourth of his young career. Lucas also tied a season high, shooting 3-of-4 (.750) from three-point range while adding five boards against the Jayhawks. With the win, Lucas helped his squad improve its win streak to nine games while extending its home-court streak to 27 consecutive wins, good enough to rank third in the nation. The Spartans' win over Kansas was their first win over a defending national champion at the Breslin Center since defeating UConn, 85-66, on Feb. 5, 2000. For the week, Lucas shot .579 from the field, .714 from three-point range and .882 from the foul line.
