Durrell Summers Garners Player of the Week Honors
Feb. 1, 2010
The conference office announced on Monday the 13th weekly men’s basketball award for games played January 25-31. Michigan State’s Durrell Summers earned his first weekly honor of the season after leading the Spartans with double-doubles in two Big Ten contests last week. Junior Durrell Summers posted two consecutive double-doubles in leading Michigan State to a pair of victories in Big Ten action last week. Overall, the 6-4 guard averaged 17.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as the Spartans distanced themselves in the race for the conference crown and improved their win streak to nine. In a 57-56 win at Michigan, Summers answered to a hostile environment by registering 10 points, 10 boards and a career-best five assists in a career-high 34 minutes of action. The Detroit, Mich., native followed that performance with a Spartan season-high 24 points, leading MSU to a 79-70 win over Northwestern on Saturday night. In one of his best performances of the season, Summers also grabbed 10 rebounds while connecting on 9-of-13 attempts and sinking two shots from long range. This is the first weekly award of Summers’ career and the first for a Spartan this season.
