3:17 p.m.: (Michigan State 60, Northwestern 57) A missed free throw by MSU and another Moore three have pulled the Wildcats within three with 36.1 seconds remaining.

3:15 p.m.: (Michigan State 59, Northwestern 54) Craig Moore is keeping Northwestern's hopes alive with a three-pointer to pull the Wildcats within five with just over a minute left in regulation.

3:10 p.m.: (Michigan State 57, Northwestern 48) Michigan State is continuing to hold Northwestern at bay as the clock ticks down. 2:09 remains and the lead for the Spartans now stands at nine.

3:02 p.m.: (Michigan State 52, Northwestern 45) The Spartans reasserted themselves a bit leading up to the last time out, re-extending their lead to seven points, but Northwestern is still holding tough. 2:55 p.m.: (Michigan State 47, Northwestern 43) Another Tim Doyle fastbreak followed by a MSU miss from outside helped the Wildcats pull within four - the closest they had gotten all game - with a little more than 8 minutes left to play.

2:50 p.m.: (Michigan State 47, Northwestern 38): After a Spartan turnover, Northwestern senior Tim Doyle turned the fast-break lay-up to cut the lead within 10. But Michigan State's Drew Neitzel tried to turn the momentum in the Spartans favor with a smooth-sailing alley-oop to freshman Raymar Morgan before the 11-minute TV timeout. Freshman Kevin Cole is leading Northwestern's comeback effort with nine of his 14 points coming in the second half.

2:41 p.m.: (Michigan State 42, Northwestern 31) At the start of the second half, the Spartans are holding onto a double-digit lead, but the Wildcats are threatening to with a few forced turnovers.

2:12 p.m.: (Michigan State 32, Northwestern 23) At the half, the Spartans hold a nine-point advantage thanks to a nice shooting run by the Wildcats to close the gap in the final minutes.

2:07 p.m.: (Michigan State 30, Northwestern 17) MSU sophomore Idong Ibok may have the best highlight reel moment for the first half with his two-handed dunk near the end of the half.

2:04 p.m.: (Michigan State 28, Northwestern 15) Popping off the box score currently is Michigan State's shooting percentage which is 69% with 3:39 left in the first half on 11-16 shooting. On the other side of the ledger, senior Vince Scott has been Northwestern's top contributor to this point with six points in six minutes off the bench.

1:58 p.m.: (Michigan State 26, Northwestern 11) Michigan State is now in the midst of a 15-3 run. Rebounding is continuing to play a big role for MSU, which holds a 14-4 edge on the boards now.

1:52 p.m.: (Michigan State 21, Northwestern 11) Neitzel has gotten off to a great start for MSU, scoring 12 of his squad's 21 points to this juncture. Neitzel is 4-4 from behind the three-point arc, and also has a rebound and an assist.

1:45 p.m.: (Michigan State 8, Northwestern 5) Michigan State holds a solid rebounding and shooting advantage in the early going. The Spartans have a 7-4 advantage in boards, and a 50% to 25% edge from the field.

1:36 p.m.: (Michigan State 5, Northwestern 2) The Spartans have taken the lead at the first media timeout with a Drew Neitzel three-pointer.

1:34 p.m.: (Northwestern 2, Michigan State 0) With the early start on a Thursday, the crowd has been a little late arriving, but is starting to fill in nicely. The school colors in the stands is spread fairly evenly at the moment.
