ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The 2017-18 Sporting News and USBWA Men's All-America Teams were announced on Monday with two Big Ten students recognized on the Second Team and one recognized on the Sporting News Third Team.
Michigan State's Miles Bridges and Ohio State's Keita Bates-Diop earned Second Team recognition on both lists, while Purdue's Carsen Edwards was a Third Team honoree on the Sporting News' list.
Bates-Diop ranks second in the Big Ten at 19.4 points per game, third with 8.8 rebounds per contest and sixth with 54 blocked shots. His 12 double-doubles rank second in the Big Ten. He scored in double figures in 30 of 32 contests to help Ohio State to a 24-8 overall record. The Big Ten Player of the Year was also named USBWA District V Player of the Year last week.
Bridges is the third Spartan to earn All-America honors since 2013. He was a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection this season after he led Michigan State in scoring at 16.9 points per game. Bridges finished second on the team with 6.9 rebounds per game and third with 2.8 assists per game. He ranks sixth in the Big Ten in scoring, 11th in rebounding and is also third in the league in free throw percentage (88.3 percent).
Edwards leads the Boilermakers in scoring at 18.5 points per game, while also averaging 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He is shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from 3-point range and 81.0 percent from the free throw line. He was an All-Big Ten First Team selection and an All-District First Team honoree by the USBWA.
