The University of Michigan men's basketball team set a single-season school record with its 32nd win and advanced to its second Final Four in the last six years as the third-seeded Wolverines defeated No. 9 seed Florida State, 58-54, Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Michigan will face No. 11 seed Loyola Chicago in the Final Four next Saturday in San Antonio, Texas at 6:09 p.m. ET. TBS will televise the national semifinals and national championship.
Charles Matthews, who led the way with 17 points and eight rebounds, was named most outstanding player of the West Regional. Moritz Wagner finished with 12 points, and Zavier Simpson delivered nine points (4-8 FG) and five assists against just one turnovers.
Over the last 14 years, the Big Ten has sent 11 different teams to the Final Four, including at least one participant in five of the past seven years. Illinois and Michigan State advanced to the Final Four in 2005, followed by Ohio State in 2007 and 2012, the Spartans in 2009, 2010 and 2015, Michigan in 2013 and 2018 and Wisconsin in 2014 and 2015.
