ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Men’s Basketball Collegiate Officiating Consortium, LLC, representing the Big Ten Conference, Horizon League, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), Mid-American Conference (MAC), Summit League and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, announced Thursday that the America East Conference will join the Consortium, beginning with the 2017-18 season.
"The America East is pleased to join the Collegiate Officiating Consortium,” said America East Commissioner, Amy Huchthausen. “We share the Consortium's commitment to improving the game through a comprehensive and systemic approach to the training, evaluation and development of quality officials. We're excited to work with the Consortium's five Division I conference partners for further collaboration and enhancements to our men's basketball officiating program."
The Men’s Basketball Collegiate Officiating Consortium now provides regional oversight of men’s basketball officiating operations for 80 institutions in 22 states. Current America East Associate Commissioner, Frank Sullivan, who has overseen America East’s officiating operation since 2007, will continue to do so in coordination with the COC team.
“We are excited to welcome the America East Conference into our expanding Consortium and will certainly benefit from collaboration with Commissioner Amy Huchthausen, Associate Commissioner Frank Sullivan and their nine highly competitive men’s basketball programs,” said Consortium Executive Director and Big Ten Associate Commissioner Rick Boyages. “The addition of the America East expands our organizational presence in the East, further enhancing the preparation, training, and performance of all COC officials to the benefit of our Division I membership.”
