Sept. 23, 2009
PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The NCAA has announced that the Big Ten Conference will host the first and second rounds of the 2011 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship at the United Center in Chicago. First- and second-round games at the United Center will be played on March 18 and 20, 2011. The Big Ten will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship at the United Center for the fourth time overall. The conference first hosted the event in 1998, the week after the first Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament was held at the same facility. The Big Ten also hosted first and second round contests in 2002 and 2007. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to once again be a part of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, and we thank the committee for allowing us to serve as hosts," said Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany. "We appreciate the achievements of each team and celebrate the competition that each school will bring. The Big Ten looks forward to hosting a first-class event for the student-athletes, coaches and fans."
With the opportunity to host the NCAA Championship, the Big Ten will once again manage basketball tournaments for three straight weeks in March of 2011. The Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament is scheduled for March 3-6, 2011, followed by the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament from March 10-13, 2011. Both the men's and women's events will be held at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.
