Big Ten Men's Basketball Weekly Release - Dec. 4

• The first week of the Big Ten schedule wraps up this week. After the games on Tuesday, all 14 teams will have played one conference home and road game between Dec. 1 and Dec. 5.

• The 2017-18 Big Ten Men’s Basketball schedule is unlike any other in conference history. Moving the 2018 Tournament up one week, meant 18 conference games would be scheduled in a nine-week window. Historically, the Big Ten has been able to implement more recommended scheduling principles than any other conference delivering the fewest one-day preps and best over-all balance throughout the season.

• Each Big Ten institution will play 16 games (112 total) in a 55-day span from Jan. 2 - Feb. 25, with no byes (change from traditional two byes).

• Three different Big Ten teams are in the latest Associated Press (AP) poll Top 25, while three are in the USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25 announced on Monday. Michigan State tops all teams at No. 3/3 (AP/USA Today), followed by No. 14/15 Minnesota and No. 21/21 Purdue. Michigan also received votes in the coaches' poll.

• Three of the top 20 career active assists leaders hail from Big Ten institutions. Northwestern's Bryant McIntosh is third in the nation with 597 assists in his career, while Michigan's Jaaron Simmons is 11th on the list with 487 assists and Minnesota's Nate Mason is 16th at 416 assists (through games of Dec. 2).

• Two Big Ten students rank in the top 10 on the active career blocks list. Minnesota's Reggie Lynch leads the nation with 341 career blocks while Nebraska's Duby Okeke is sixth with 176 career blocks. Lynch also leads the nation with a 3.16 blocks per game career average (through games of Dec. 3).

• The 2018 Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament will be held from Feb. 28-March 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the first time in history. The Big Ten Tournament will return to Chicago in 2019 and 2021 and Indianapolis in 2020 and 2022.

• Six Big Ten teams rank in the top 15 in total blocks this season, including three in the top 5. Minnesota leads the nation with 66 blocks this season while Penn State is third with 54 blocked shots. Purdue (t-4th, 53), Nebraska (t-9th, 49), Maryland (t-13th, 47) and Michigan State (t-13th, 47) round out the top 25 (through games of Dec. 3).

• The Big Ten welcomes back 21 students that earned All-Big Ten distinction in 2016-17, including Minnesota's Nate Mason and Wisconsin's Ethan Happ, who were first-team selections last season, and Michigan State's Miles Bridges and Northwestern's Bryant McIntosh, who were named second-team All-Big Ten in 2016-17.

• The Big Ten returns 26 students that were named Academic All-Big Ten last season, including Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year Nicholas Baer of Iowa, and honorable mention All-Big Ten selections Moritz Wagner of Michigan, and Purdue's Dakota Mathias and P.J. Thompson. Northwestern's Vic Law, a member of the 2016-17 All-Defensive Team, also highlights the conference's returning Academic All-Big Ten honorees.
