Michigan's Sims Earns Player of the Week Laurels

Dec. 12, 2005

Big Ten Player of the Week
Courtney Sims, Michigan
Jr., C, Boston, Mass./Noble & Greenough School

Sims helped the Wolverines stay undefeated after averaging a double-double with 23.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game to earn Big Ten Player of the Week laurels. He opened the week by tallying a career-high 33 points on a career-best 13-of-17 shooting (.765) in a 69-49 victory over Delaware State. He also added a season-best 13 rebounds against the Hornets for his sixth career double-double. Sims became the first Wolverine to score over 30 points in almost three years as teammate Daniel Horton recorded the last 30-plus point performance at Purdue on Feb. 19, 2003. The junior center wrapped up the week shooting 6-of-8 from the field (.750) for 13 points in a 21-point road win over South Florida on Saturday. For the season, Sims has scored in double-figures in six of seven games and leads the Wolverines with 16.4 points per contest, while also averaging a career-best 8.0 rebounds per game. The Boston, Mass, native earns his first Big Ten weekly accolade and becomes the first Wolverine to be named Player of the Week since Horton was honored on Feb. 24, 2003.
