Dec. 21, 2009

The conference office announced on Monday the sixth weekly men's basketball award for games played Dec.14-20. Minnesota junior Blake Hoffarber collects his first weekly award after helping the Gophers improve their win streak to four with a win over Northern Illinois last week.

Player of the Week:

Blake Hoffarber shot his way to a career-high 26 points in Minnesota's 89-48 rout of NIU last Tuesday. The 6-4 guard set a new school record with eight triples, connecting on 8-of-10 attempts from behind the arc, moving into fourth all-time in Minnesota annals at .404 (144-356) and fifth all-time with 144 three-pointers. Hoffarber has led the team in scoring in the Gophers' last four outings, helping Minnesota average nearly 93 points per game during that stretch. The Minnetonka, Minn., native also contributed four assists and pulled down six rebounds, including five on the defensive end, while shooting 82 percent (9-11) from the floor. This is the first weekly laurel for Hoffarber who returns the award to the Twin Cities for the first time since Dan Coleman accomplished the feat on Dec. 24, 2007.
