The 2013 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament returns to the United Center in Chicago, the site of the inaugural event, for the first time since 2007 and the eighth time overall. This year's tournament will tip off on Thursday, March 14, and the champion will be crowned on Sunday, March 17.
The top four finishers in the regular-season standings will receive byes into the quarterfinals, and the first two days of the tournament will each consist of four games. The tournament bracket will be announced on Sunday, March, 10, the final day of the regular season. The team or teams that finish atop the conference standings will be named Big Ten Champion.
The Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament has made its mark both nationally and locally in its 15 years of existence. Sellout crowds, exciting and competitive games, national television coverage and throngs of media have been featured in past conference tournaments. It is a highlight reel of college basketball that showcases the finest coaches and student-athletes in the nation.
Since its inception, the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament has seen six different conference representatives crowned champion. Michigan State (1999, 2000, 2012) and Ohio State (2007, 2010, 2011) are the only institutions to have won the tournament three times, while Illinois (2003, 2005), Iowa (2001, 2006) and Wisconsin (2004, 2008) have each claimed the honor twice, and Purdue captured the crown in 2009.
In addition, every tournament game in the event's history has been televised live on CBS Sports, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Plus or BTN.
