Big Ten Football Spring Practice Wraps Up With Eight Spring Games in Coming Weeks
April 12, 2006 With spring football practice concluding across the country later this month, eight of the 11 Big Ten programs will be holding their annual spring football games in the coming weeks. Indiana wraps up spring practice first and will hold its spring game this Saturday, April 15. Illinois, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin will take the field one week later on Saturday, April 22, while Purdue will conclude spring drills the following Saturday, April 29. Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State will not take part in a spring game, as the Hawkeyes and Wolverines complete their spring practices on April 15 with the Spartans ending their time on the field on April 21. Three of the Big Ten's spring football games will be televised, as the contests for Illinois, Ohio State and Penn State will be aired on local networks. In addition, the Buckeyes' and Nittany Lions' games will also be televised nationally on CSTV. With the conclusion of spring practice, the next media event will be the 2006 Big Ten Football Media Days and 35th annual Kickoff Luncheon, which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 1-2, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, and will feature all 11 head coaches and some of the Conference's top returning players. The 111th season of Big Ten football kicks off on Thursday, August 31, with Minnesota battling Kent State and Northwestern playing Miami (Ohio).
