Maxwell Award (Mon., July 16)

Twelve Big Ten students received mention on the Maxwell Trophy preseason watch list. Each year the Maxwell Football Club presents the Maxwell Award for the College Player of the Year. This award is presented in honor of Robert W. (Tiny) Maxwell, legendary college player, official and sports columnist.

A student from a current Big Ten football program has been presented with the Maxwell Award on 20 occasions since the award's inception in 1937, with Penn State's Larry Johnson the most recent recipient in 2002. [FULL LIST]

Bednarik Award (Mon., July 16)

Thirteen conference students earned a spot on the Bednarik Award preseason watch list. The College Defensive Player of the Year Award is named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, College and Pro Football Hall of Famer.

Since the Bednarik Award's debut in 1995, nine students from Big Ten schools have earned the honor, most recently in 2009 by Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh. [FULL LIST]

Davey O'Brien Award (Tue., July 17)

Three Big Ten standouts earned mention on this year's Davey O'Brien Award preseason watch list.

The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback. The Davey O'Brien Award honors candidates who exemplify Davey O'Brien's enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics.

A student from a current Big Ten school has received the Davey O'Brien Award six times since its debut in 1981, with the most recent being Ohio State's Troy Smith in 2006. [FULL LIST]

Doak Walker Award (Wed., July 18)

Seven Big Ten Conference students have earned a place on the 2018 preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, as announced Wednesday by the SMU Athletic Forum. The Doak Walker Award was created in 1989 to recognize the nation's premier running back for his accomplishments on the field, achievement in the classroom and citizenship in the community.

It is the only major collegiate football award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.

Seven students from current Big Ten schools have received the Doak Walker Award since it was first presented in 1990, with Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon being the award’s most recent Big Ten recipient in 2014. [FULL LIST]

Biletnikoff Award (Thurs., July 19)

A trio of Big Ten Conference standouts earned mention on this year’s preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award following its release on Thursday morning by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation.

The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, split end, inside receiver, slot back or running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award.

Four students from current Big Ten schools received the Biletnikoff Award since its inception in 1994, with Michigan’s Braylon Edwards the most recent conference recipient in 2004. [FULL LIST]

John Mackey Award (Fri., July 20)

Twelve Big Ten students were chosen for this year's Mackey Award preseason watch list, announced by the Friends of John Mackey on Friday.

Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2018 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 5, 2018 and then presented live on December 6, 2018 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

Four Big Ten Conference students appear on the 2018 Jim Thorpe Award watch list, it was announced Friday by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. The Thorpe Award is presented annually to the nation’s top defensive back.
