Michigan State's Drew Stanton led the Spartans to an overtime victory at Notre Dame.

Michigan State's Drew Stanton led the Spartans to an overtime victory at Notre Dame.

Sept. 19, 2005

OFFENSE:
Drew Stanton, Michigan State
JR, QB, Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison
Stanton accounted for 375 yards of total offense and four touchdowns while leading Michigan State to a 44-41 overtime victory at No. 10/12 Notre Dame. The junior quarterback completed 16 of 27 passes (59.3 pct.) for 327 yards and three touchdowns while also running 14 times for 48 yards and another score. He now has four 300-yard passing games, including two this season, and his 327 yards were three off of his career high (330 yards vs. Hawaii in 2004) and the most ever by a Spartan quarterback against the Fighting Irish. Stanton's three touchdown passes equaled a career best. After Notre Dame claimed the lead, Stanton led a drive for a field goal and then scored on a three-yard burst just before halftime to give the visitors a 24-17 advantage. Stanton connected with Matt Trannon in the third quarter for a 65-yard score and a 21-point lead before the hosts rallied to tie the game and force overtime. After Notre Dame hit a field goal in the extra session, Stanton ran for 11 yards on MSU's first play and then pitched the ball on the second play as Jason Teague went 19 yards for the winning score. The Farmington Hills native leads the Big Ten in passing (308.3 yards per game), total offense (345.3 yards per game) and pass efficiency (194.0). This marks the third weekly honor of his career but his first solo award, as he shared offensive accolades on Dec. 4 and Oct. 16 last year.

DEFENSE:
Chad Greenway, Iowa
SR, LB, Mt. Vernon, S.D./Mt. Vernon
Greenway collected a career-high 20 tackles in a victory over Northern Iowa, including 12 solo stops and eight assisted tackles. The senior linebacker added a tackle for loss (-3 yards) and a pass breakup on the way to his 17th career game with double-digit tackles. The 20 defensive stops shattered his previous career best of 17 stops set against Iowa State in 2003. The Hawkeyes defense held the visitors to only 2.6 yards per rushing attempt and only one touchdown in the first three quarters before Northern Iowa tacked on two scores in the final stanza. Greenway currently leads his team and ranks second in the Big Ten with 11.7 tackles per contest. This marks his third career weekly laurel after being honored in each of the last two seasons -- on Sept. 6, 2004 and Sept. 22, 2003.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
Ken DeBauche, Wisconsin
SO, P, Suamico, Wis./Bay Port
In a close game on the road, DeBauche helped the visiting Badgers win the battle of field position by averaging 46.7 yards on seven punts, including four kicks placed inside the 20-yard line. The sophomore punter booted a 53-yard punt that was downed on the two-yard line and also recorded a 54-yarder out of his own endzone. The Wisconsin native, who currently leads the Big Ten with 47.2 yards per punt, picks up the first weekly award of his career.
