OFFENSE:
John Stocco, Wisconsin
SO, QB, Richfield, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels
Stocco guided the Wisconsin offense to scores on each of its first five drives and accounted for three touchdowns while completing 73 percent of his passes as the Badgers remained undefeated with a victory over the Gophers. The Minnesota native connected on 19 of 26 passes (.731) for a career-high 297 yards and a touchdown while adding a pair of rushing scores. His 241 passing yards in the first half surpassed his previous career-best of 211 stripes and helped UW explode to a 31-0 lead before halftime. This is his first Big Ten weekly award.
DEFENSE:
Jonathan Babineaux, Iowa
SR, DT, Port Arthur, Texas/Lincoln
Babineaux racked up a career-high three sacks for 18 yards of loss, the best single-game performance by any Big Ten player this season, as the Iowa defense held Purdue to 21 points in a narrow two-point triumph. The senior defensive tackle also recorded five solo tackles in the game while forcing and recovering a fumble. Babineaux leads the Big Ten with 15.5 tackles for loss on the year and is tied for third in the Conference with six sacks. The Texas native anchors a Hawkeyes defense that leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth nationally by allowing only 68.2 rushing yards per game. This is his first weekly Conference laurel.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Ted Ginn, Jr., Ohio State
FR, PR, Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville
Ginn, Jr., equaled a Big Ten single-season record with his third punt return touchdown, as he broke loose for a 60-yard score and added touchdowns rushing and receiving to lead the Buckeyes to a road victory at Michigan State. The freshman defensive back established a school record with his third punt return score and tied the Conference record previously established by Michigan's Gene Derricotte (1947), Wisconsin's Ira Matthews (1976) and Iowa's Tim Dwight (1997). Ginn opened OSU's scoring on a 17-yard reverse before his punt return boosted the lead to 14-0. With 1:37 left in the game, he added a 58-yard touchdown reception to give the visitors a 24-19 lead. The Ohio native has touched the ball 24 times this season and recorded six scores and currently leads the Big Ten in League games only with 28.9 yards per punt return. He picks up his first Big Ten Player of the Week accolade.
