Football Recaps: November 13
Nov. 13, 2010
Northwestern 21, Iowa 17: Dan Persa threw for 318 yards and two late touchdowns before being helped off the field, and Northwestern handed No. 13 Iowa another devastating loss, beating the Hawkeyes 21-17 on Saturday.
Iowa (7-3, 4-2 Big Ten) can just about forget about a BCS berth. Its game against Ohio State next week just lost much of its luster, and once again, Northwestern (7-3, 3-3) spoiled the Hawkeyes' season, beating Iowa for the fifth time in six games.
Minnesota 38, Illinois 34: DeLeon Eskridge rescued Minnesota from its tenth loss Saturday, leading the Gophers to a 38-34 comeback upset of Illinois with a last-minute touchdown run.
Eskridge scored three touchdowns for the Gophers (2-9, 1-6 Big Ten). The last, a 2-yarder, came with 16 seconds to play and capped an 80-yard drive engineered by quarterback Adam Weber. The quarterback kept it alive with a key 29-yard scramble on a third-and-10 play.
Michigan 27, Purdue 16: Denard Robinson overcame four turnovers, and Michigan defeated Purdue 27-16 on Saturday.
Robinson passed for 176 yards, but the nation's leader in yards rushing was held to 68 yards on 22 carries. He also fumbled twice and threw two interceptions.
Wisconsin 83, Indiana 20: Montee Ball ran for three touchdowns in his first career start, replacing injured running back John Clay, and Scott Tolzien threw for three more as No. 6 Wisconsin routed Indiana 83-20 on Saturday.
Wisconsin (9-1, 5-1) put up the most points by an FBS school this season and matched the highest scoring total by a team in a Big Ten conference game since Ohio State's 83-21 victory over Iowa in 1950.
Ohio State 38, Penn State 14: Devon Torrence tipped and snagged an interception and returned it 34 yards for the go-ahead touchdown to turn the tide in No. 8 Ohio State's 38-14 win over Penn State on Saturday.
The Buckeyes added scores when a long pass into double coverage ricocheted off a defender to Dane Sanzenbacher for a 58-yard score and Travis Howard picked off a pass and brought it back 30 yards, also in the fourth quarter.
