Drew Stanton, Michigan State

Stanton accounted for 406 total yards, the second-best single game total in Michigan State history, in the Spartans' season-ending game at Hawaii on December 4. The sophomore quarterback completed 22 of 32 passes (.688) for a career-high 330 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing 12 times for 76 yards. He picks up the second weekly award of his career, as he also shared the accolade on October 16.

                                                                                                     

Brett Basanez, Northwestern

JR, QB, Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator

Basanez tallied three touchdowns and 379 yards of total offense in Northwestern's season finale at Hawaii on November 27. The junior signal caller connected on 19 of his 41 pass attempts (.463) for 319 yards and a score while racking up 60 yards on eight carries with a pair of touchdowns. He established NU single-season records with 247 completions and 2,838 passing yards on the year while his 3,096 yards of total offense ranks second in school annals. Basanez has now collected Offensive Player of the Week honors twice in his career, as he opened the season by earning the weekly award on September 6.

 

DEFENSE:

Tim McGarigle, Northwestern

JR, LB, Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick

McGarigle, the Big Ten leader in tackles, closed the season with his eighth straight double-digit tackle performance, as he racked up 10 defensive stops, including eight solo tackles, at Hawaii on November 27. The junior linebacker, who led the country in solo tackles per game, also added his first interception on the year. McGarigle earns the second weekly honor of his career and this season, as he was also selected on October 30.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS:

DeAndra Cobb, Michigan State

SR, KR, Las Vegas, Nev./Antelope Valley College

Cobb returned three kickoffs for 111 yards (37.0 avg.) at Hawaii and had a 98-yard touchdown return nullified by penalty. His 41-yard runback with less than four minutes left in the game set up a Michigan State score that cut the lead to 41-38. He wraps up his career with 1,632 kickoff return yards, which ranks third on the MSU all-time charts.
