Big Ten Golfer of the Week:
Chris DeForest, Illinois
Jr. - Cottekill, N.Y. - Rondout Valley
Chris DeForest posted a pair of wins in singles dual and four-ball match play to lead the No. 13-ranked Illinois to its seventh straight victory over Illinois State in the Tinervin Cup at Coral Creek Golf Club in Placida, Fla., last week. The Illini junior fired a 68 to win the head-to-head matchup against Joe Emerich in singles before teaming up with Ross Frankenberg to down Will Cullen and Emerich in 5 and 4 in four-man better-ball match play. The two victories helped Illinois defeat the Redbirds, 9-0, marking the first shutout in the Tinervin Cup since the inaugural event in 2004. This is the first Big Ten Golfer of the Week award for DeForest’s career.
Last Illinois Golfer of the Week: Scott Langley (April 1, 2009)
