Illinois and Purdue Collect Men's Golf Weekly Honors

Men's Co-Golfers of the Week Illinois' Chris DeForest earns Co-Golfer of the Week laurels after finishing 4-0 at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship. DeForest defeated Baylor's Payne Gniewek, 3 and 2, in the fourth-seeded Illini's 5-0 first-round win over the 13th-seeded Bears. He followed with a 1-up victory against Ignacia Elvira in Illinois' 3-2 win against fifth-seeded Texas A&M in the second round. DeForest then earned a 5 and 4 win over Tyler Weworski to push the Illini to a 3-2 triumph against ninth-seeded Texas Tech in the semifinals. The senior picked up Illinois' lone win in the finals, topping 10th-seeded Duke's Tim Gornik, 3 and 2, in the Illini's 4-1 loss to the Blue Devils. The award is the fifth of DeForest's career and first this season. Last Illinois Golfer of the Week: Luke Guthrie (March 9, 2011) William Sjaichudin, Purdue Purdue's William Sjaichudin receives his first Big Ten weekly award after earning medalist honors at the Furman Intercollegiate. Sjaichudin's career-best score of 206 (-10) led him to his first career win and helped the Boilermakers tie for seventh. The junior opened the tournament by firing a 7-under 65, marking the lowest round of his career and the fourth-lowest round in Purdue history. He followed with a 3-under 69 in the second round and shot an even-par 72 in the third round en route to the win.
